Nine Years of Millair: From a Home Business to a Multi-Region Operation
Posted: February 05, 2026
On Monday, 2 February 2026, Millair celebrated nine years in business.
Millair was founded by Jon and Elly Millard, originally operating as a home-based business with a simple goal: build a company that does quality work, looks after its people, and stands by what it delivers. Like many small businesses, the early days were hands-on, long hours, and built one job at a time.
As the business grew, so did the need for space and structure. Millair moved from the home office into premises on Yarowee Street in Currajong, marking the first big step into a dedicated commercial workspace. A few years later, continued growth saw the business shift again into larger premises on Bowen Road, providing room for a growing team, more vehicles, and expanding operations.
Most recently, Millair moved into a purpose-built, fit-for-purpose facility on Ingham Road — a space designed to support the scale, capability, and future of the business.
The evolution of the business wasn’t just about buildings. Millair’s work also shifted from an early focus on real estate and residential work into a strong commercial and project-based operation, delivering HVAC, refrigeration and electrical services across commercial, government, health, education, retail, and remote community sectors.
In 2021, Vic Riella joined the business as a Director, strengthening the leadership team and helping guide the next phase of growth.
In 2024, Millair reached another major milestone with the acquisition of Johnny Cool Darwin, expanding the business into the Northern Territory and strengthening its presence in remote and regional communities. That acquisition marked a significant step in Millair’s journey from a local business into a multi-region operation.
Today, Millair employs more than 45 people and operates across North Queensland and the Northern Territory, delivering work in some of the most challenging and remote environments in Australia. Despite the growth, the foundations remained the same: turn up, do the job properly, look after people, and stand behind our work.
The real story of Millair has always been its people.
Our technicians who get it done in tough conditions.
Our apprentices who represent the future of the trade.
Our office and support teams who keep everything moving.
Our leaders who carry responsibility not just for projects, but for culture.
Over nine years, we built more than a business. We built a team, a reputation, and a culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and pride in our work. We navigated rapid growth, skills shortages, changing regulations, and the realities of operating across vast distances — and each challenge made us stronger.
Looking ahead, our focus remained clear:
To our team — past and present — thank you. You are the reason Millair is what it is today.
To our clients and partners — thank you for trusting us and growing with us.
To our communities — thank you for backing a local business that cares about doing the right thing.
Nine years on, we’re just getting started.
